On Sunday November 10, 2024, a sunny afternoon, the Merrick House, in Coral Gables, held a Veterans Day Concert featuring Miami’s Top Brass Band. The setting was a spectacular Merrick House backdrop with a breathless lush green environment anyone would love to be outdoors. People arrived and sat on lawn chairs and rolled out their blankets. Water and popcorn were offered. Although Veterans Day is not until Monday November 11th this celebration was a wonderful way to spend Sunday afternoon honoring our retired veterans who served our country. In appreciation for members of the armed forces we thank you for your patriotic love for our country.

Althea was George Merrick’s mother. She influenced her son to create and develop the City of Coral Gables. She was a natural leader. She founded the first school in the area, helped found the Coral Gables Garden Club, Coral Gables Woman’s Club, and the Coral Gables Congregational Church. She was a pioneer woman and community leader.
